Soubin Som Keosakdy, 88, of Cassopolis, MI, passed away peacefully in Mishawaka, IN, on Monday, March 22, 2021, surrounded by family. Som was born Soubin Som Phengphim in northeast Thailand on December 5, 1932, to Linh and Pha. Som married Bounthanh Keosakdy in 1959 in Laos. He eventually took his wife’s last name due to the political situation in Laos at the time. Their family fled Laos as refugees in the late 70s, and their path led them to Thailand, then to the Philippines, to Fresno, CA, and eventually to Michigan in 1996. In his young life, Som worked as an herbal doctor. He often enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, and meditating. Som was a Buddhist monk in Holland, MI, 2003-2009. Som is survived by his children, Khamphai (Lamphone Sychanthavong) Keosakdy, Aen (See Khounsavat) Keosakdy, and Eric (Andrew Frye) Keosakdy, his grandchildren, Khamphet Mye Keosakdy, Ratsamy (Joe Russell) Keosakdy, Pounikhom Keosakdy, Mimi (Mat Valdez) Keosakdy, Eakachai Keosakdy, and Dylan Keosakdy, and great-grandchildren Dao, Kaylynn, Milliana, Joseph, Bradley, Morgan, and Gabriella. Som is preceded in death by his wife, Bounthanh (d. 1995), their children, Phet Sakhat, Sahm Leht, Pinn, Thiat, and Phen, and great-grandchild, Kenny. Services for Som will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 27 at the Palmer Funeral Home within the Lakeville Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville. Cremation will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, March 26, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home - Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka.
