SOUTH BEND - Daniel J. Szymanski, 80, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on August 25, 1927, in South Bend, to the late John and Anastasia (Sobieralski) Szymanski, and was a lifelong area resident. In December 15, 1956, he married Lorraine Micinski, who survives. Along with his wife of 51 years, he is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Peter) Waite and Linda (Timothy) Hine, both of South Bend; his sons, Michael of Burke, VA, and Daniel M. of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Nicholas D. Waite, Adam and Jesse Szymanski, Courtney and Lauren Szymanski, Rebecca and Connor Zakowski, Seth and Emily Hine; two sisters, Esther Cyr of South Bend and Mary Jane (Bob) Zeman of Franksville, WI; and two brothers, Clement of Benton, KY, and Louis (Lil) of Kimmel, IN. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lucian. Mr. Szymanski retired from Allied Signal in 1980. He was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the American Legion Post #50 and ZB Falcons. Daniel loved baseball, Mickey Mantle and fishing. He was a bartender at the South Bend Country Club and was best known for his jokes and sense of humor. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial visitation from 4 to 8 PM today (Sunday, April 6) in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 5 PM. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Monday, April 7, 2008, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Services of Northern Indiana, P.O. Box 4204, South Bend, IN 46634; or to the American Cancer Society, 601 West Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
