Earl D. O’Parker Sr., 79, of E. Ewing Street, South Bend, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in his residence. He was born on January 18, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, to Casimir and Mary (Hill) O’Parker, who preceded him in death. Two sisters, Edna Kulyk and Florence Parker, and brother, Martin O’Parker, are also deceased.
On May 4, 1946, in St. Hedwig Church, Earl married Helen J.Leonard. Surviving Earl is his wife, Helen; sons and daughters, Patricia (Frank) Bezi of Osceola, Earl P. O’Parker Jr. of South Bend, Suzanne (Larry) Cadieux of South Bend, Kurt O’Parker of South Bend, Carol Dynes of Berne, Indiana; grandchildren, Karen, Mary, Paul, Vicki, Steve, Andrew, Joseph and Daniel; great-granddaughter, Gena;and two sisters, Rosemary Harnish of Kingsville, Ontario, and Sister Virginia Parker, IHM of Monroe, Michigan.
Earl graduated from St.Gregory High School in Detroit in 1942.He attended Notre Dame in 1943 in Naval Officer Training. Earl was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, before being sent to the Philippines during World War II. In 1948 he graduated from the RCA School of Television in Chicago. For 17 years Earl was a radio engineer at WXYZ in Detroit. Earl retired in 1991 after 23 years with the U.S. Post Office in South Bend.
He was a member of the Tip Toppers Social Club in Detroit, the Golden Gang Senior Club, St. Joseph Young Men’s Club and the Crumstown Conservation Club. Earl was an avid bowler, euchre player and he loved TV quiz shows and model planes.
