SOUTH BEND - Mary Anne Kring, 93, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Hospice House. She was born on September 17, 1919, to the late Frank and Sophie (Tatynecz) Granat in South Bend, IN, and was a graduate of South Bend Central High School. On May 30, 1953, in South Bend, IN, she was united in marriage to Claude A. Kring. She was preceded in death by her husband Claude on March 28, 1990; and sons, Thomas Kring and Gerald Ellis; brothers, Michael (Ann) Granat, Frank (Cecelia) Granat, George (Susan) Granat; sisters, Anne (John) Lichkai and Helene (Lambert) Froling. Mary is survived by her sisters, Betty (Victor) Hockney of Union Mills, IN, and Margaret (Rex) Edwards of South Bend, IN; daughter-in-law, Kathy Ellis of Hawaii; stepson, Dennis Kring of Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was a lifelong resident. She was an avid gardener and had a beautiful back yard which was greatly admired by neighbors and friends. Mary enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She retired in 1989 from the Penny Saver after fourteen years of service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, where friends may visit one hour prior to the services. Graveside services & burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Road, South Bend, IN 46614; or the Leukemia Society, 921 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
