Sept. 15, 1927 - April 21, 2014
SOUTH BEND - Gene Przygoda, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, April 21, 2014, on one of his favorite holidays, "Dyngus Day," Gene was born in South Bend on September 15, 1927, to the late John F. and Harriet (Wcisel) Przygoda. Gene was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael P., and his second mother, Marie (Banczynski) Przygoda. On Oct 24, 1959, in Christ the King Catholic Church, Gene married Lynn E. (Minor) Przygoda, who survives along with a daughter, Gina M. Przygoda of Ft. Wayne, and 2 sons, Michael T. and Joseph (Heidi) Przygoda, both of South Bend. Gene also enjoyed having 2 grandsons, Nicholas and Kyle, a granddaughter, Britney, and a great-grandson, Michael, all of South Bend; 2 sisters, Gerri (William) Slater of South Bend and Caroline (Dan) Blocker of Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Myra M. Hollars of Centerville, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Gene was a devoted father and husband. When he was not busy working behind his drafting board at Bendix/Honeywell, he enjoyed being at home in his garden, at Elbel golf course or on a stage playing his music. Gene entertained people for more than 30 years with a variety of local bands (Polka Dots and The Continentals) at weddings and clubs. Gene was an Army veteran and member of American Legion Post 357, PNA 83 and St. Joseph Club. Gene was a local sponsor of boys' baseball and was an avid Notre Dame fan. He loved to frequent Howard Park and visit with his friends over a game of pool or Euchre. He loved to lead by example and was the type of person that you always knew you could count on. Although ornery at times, he had a wonderful sense of humor and a contagious laugh. Visitation for Gene will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday, April 24, 2014, in St. Joseph Funeral, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Ceremony will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, April 25, 2014, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leader Dogs for the Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307; and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
