Clara Smolka
Mrs. Clara Smolka, 88, of 507 S. Jackson St., died at 6 p.m. Saturday in her home after a three day illness. She was born Aug. 10, 1884, in South Bend and had lived here all her life. On Nov. 16, 1903 as Clara Cukrowicz, she was married to Walter Smolka who died in 1942. Surviving are a son, Stanley; three daughters, Mrs. Stella , Kuczmanski, Mrs. Carrie Juhas and Mrs. Henrietta Burdick; eighteen grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Stanley, Harry and Nicholas Cukrowicz, all of South Bend. Friends may call from 7 to 9 today and from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home. Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, Rev. Eugene J. Kanderczak, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Mrs. Smolka was a member of St. Anne's Society and Group 129, P.W.A. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today by the St. Anne's Society, and a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
