SOUTH BEND - Rita Marie Bollinger, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:42 a.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Sprenger Health Care of Mishawaka. She was born on June 6, 1927, in South Bend, IN, to the late Aloysius & Helen (Gorski) Klosinski. On March 11, 1944, in South Bend, IN, she was united in marriage with Wilbur J. Bollinger, who preceded her in death on June 2, 2005. Mrs. Bollinger is survived by her daughter, Carol (Tom) Sergeant of Mishawaka, IN; three sons, David (Theresa) Bollinger of Granger, IN, William Bollinger of Witchita, KS, and James (Eileen) Bollinger of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Ryan (JoAnn) and Jason (Traci) Sergeant, Alyssa (Tyler) Mikev, Nicholas and Joshua Bollinger; and two great-grandchildren, Clara and Ethan Sergeant. Also preceding her in death, was her grandson, James Sergeant.Mrs. Bollinger was a lifelong resident who took great pride in her city. She served as a precinct committee woman in her neighborhood. Rita loved genealogy, dancing, playing bingo, and was an avid reader. She also held a deep respect for the University Notre Dame and the University Band. Rita enjoyed visits from family, friends and neighbors, welcoming all to her home. The family would like to thank Sprenger Health Care and the staff for the exceptional care and kindness provided to Rita. The compassion and support demonstrated to the family was also greatly appreciated. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, 1701 Miami St., South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN. Contributions in memory of Rita M. Bollinger may be offered to the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, 1701 Miami St., South Bend, IN 46613.
