[N34821] Richard Dick E. Torok
May 25, 1933 - March 22, 2023

Richard "Dick" E. Torok, 89, of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Elkhart, passed away peacefully in his sleep March 22, 2023. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Torok, with whom he resided in Sarasota, his nephews Scott Torok and son, Ian of San Francisco, the Nicholas (Colleen) Torok family of Elkhart with many great- and grand-nieces and nephews, niece Lisa Daniels of Texas, nephews Brett (Melanie) Tekker and Matthew (Nancy) Tekker and their families in North Carolina and Alaska, respectively, sister-in-law Kay (Larry) Tekker of Louden, Tennessee, and daughter-in-law Shauna Torok and grandchildren Stetson and CC of Hermosa Beach, California.Dick is predeceased by his wife, Joan, son Todd, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Lorene Torok, nephew Mike Torok, and parents Frank and Helen "Gerry" Torok. 1951 graduate of Elkhart High School, Richard was a business owner in Elkhart for much of his working life, having co-founded Trek Inc., and retired from KeyLine Sales as a co-owner. Dick was well-liked by most who knew him. He made friends easily, not because he set out to do so; his very nature, personality and ease in living seemed to draw friends to him. In the past he was an avid golfer, with a membership in the (former) Christiana Creek Country Club, as well as having been a member of the Elks Lodge, BPOE 625. Richard and his wife were frequent patrons, donors and volunteers in myriad ways in Elkhart Civic Theatre at the Bristol Opera House, having been made Lifetime Members in the early 2000s. He had his pilot's license, owned a few different planes over time, and maintained a life-long interest in and passion for aviation, flying, and all types of airplanes, and he knew much about all the planes of World War II. In his final years Dick enjoyed re-runs of "Black Sheep Squadron," which featured his favorite - those "bent-winged devils" - the Corsair. Here's hoping he has his own wings now. Richard is already deeply and sorely missed.
