Gary Lee Selge, 77, formally of Niles, Michigan passed away June 4th, 2021 in Anthem, Arizona. Gary was born to the late Marvin L. Selge, Sr. and Phyllis (Domer) Selge on August 27, 1943 in Pawating Hospital. Gary attended Brandywine Jr. High and was part of the last class that was transitioned to Niles Senior High from which he graduated in 1962. After graduation he attended Western Michigan University. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1963-1968. In 1974 Gary and his surviving, loving wife Jan, founded GJ Selge Excavating where their company built many projects in their hometown of Niles and the surrounding communities. In 2006 after Gary and Jan retired, they began a new adventure in Anthem, Arizona. Gary and Jan were University of Michigan football season ticket holders for the past 48 years and he was so very, very "passionate about his Wolverines". Gary also loved playing golf, and was a proud member of the Anthem Country Club, where he made countless friends. Gary's children are, Cary (Wayne) Ganshorn, Ginger (Steven) Simons, Staci Jo Van Schoiack and Rock Van Schoiack. Along with surviving grandchildren; Chloe Hanley, Kelly (Justin) Pistorius, Cristy (Jeff) Van Schoiack-Geibig and Justin (Nicole) Simons: great-grandchildren Cru and Ryan Pistorious, Owen and Zachary Geibig, Ava and Jaxon Simons: as well as a niece, nephews and many friends. His surviving siblings are Judith (Verl) Elms, Valparaiso, IN; Gayle (Mark) Godsey, New Buffalo, MI and Marvin (Barbara) Selge, Jr., Edwardsburg, MI. Gary was a strong family man, a devoted husband, resolute in his faith and always found a way to share Christ with others. If you would run into Gary his favorite greeting was "Hey, what do you know?". Memorial contributions may be made to: Sun Valley Baptist Church, 42302 North Vista Way, Suite 110, Anthem, AZ 85086. Service for Gary was held on June 12th in the Sun Valley Baptist Church, Anthem, Arizona with Michael Moffitt officiating. Published in South Bend Tribune from Jun. 14 to Jun. 16, 2021.
