SOUTH BEND - Joseph J. Barilich, 85, passed away peacefully at 7:30 am on Thursday, May 10, 2012 in his residence surrounded by his family. Joseph was born March 12, 1927 in South Bend to the late Frank and Frances (Militich) Barilich. Joseph is also preceded in death by brothers, Steve, Rudolph, and Frank Jr. Barilich. On October 9, 1948 in South Bend Joseph married Theresa (Maciejewski); she survives along with children, Linda (Gilbert) Peterson of New Carlisle, Anthony Barilich of Chicago, and Julia (Dale) Brown of North Liberty; grandchildren, Kenneth Peterson of New Carlisle, Brenda (Martin Matthews) Peterson of South Bend and Dale (Julie) Peterson of Ft. Wayne; great grandchildren, Bailey Peterson and Jacob Grott; great-great-grandchildren, Jason Peterson Picon and Christopher Bowen; sister, Frances (John) Toth of Elk River, MN; brother, John J. (Agnes) Barilich of South Bend, and sister-in-law, Gizella Barilich of South Bend. Joseph honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was the owner of the Maciejewski Locker Plant (Meat Market) for 33 years where he was well known for his famous Polish Sausage and affectionately known as the "Lollipop Man". He was a parishioner of the Holy Family Catholic Church. Joseph also was a member of the Crumstown Conservation Club, American Legion Post 357, M.R. Falcons and the Warren Township Fire Department. He enjoyed gardening and yard work, loved polka dancing and Dyngus Day. Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 13, 2012 as well as 1 hour prior to the start of the funeral service on Monday, May 14, 2012 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, May 14, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 or to the charity of choice .
