LAPORTE - Richard Paul “Dick” Bernacchi, 88, of LaPorte, IN, and Aurora, CO, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016, in Denver, CO. Dick was born February 20, 1928, in LaPorte, IN, to Victor and Mildred (Marganti) Bernacchi. Dick was the co-owner of Bernacchi Farm Market in LaPorte. On November 27, 1954, Dick marred Genevieve M. Bym, who survives. Dick also leaves behind a daughter, Cathleen (John) Rank of Aurora, CO; a son, David (Mickey) Bernacchi of LaPorte, IN; grandchildren, Kate Horst, Eric and Greg Bernacchi, John and Lacey Rank; great-granddaughters, Anna Bella, Gabriella, Camryn; sisters, Gloria Kunze of Sarasota, FL, Vicki Kelley of Lafayette, IN; brothers, Peter Bernacchi of LaPorte, IN, Tom Bernacchi of Casa Mesa, CA; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Julie Bernacchi, and a brother, Donald Bernacchi. Dick was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, served his country in the Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Commendation Medal of Honor for Meritorious Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at St. Peter Catholic Church. Visitation will follow on Friday from 4-7 p.m. in the Frank L.
