SOUTH BEND - Emma M. Wichlacz, 81, passed away at 7:35 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27th, in the Fountainview-Golden Living Center, South Bend. She had retired from the Bendix Corporation after 42 1/2 years of service. After her retirement she worked at Claeys Candy, South Bend, where she made Chocolate Charlie. She was born on July 9, 1929, in South Bend, to Lawrence and Agatha (Stachowiak) Nowicki, and remained a lifelong resident. On November 26, 1953, in South Bend, she married Sylvester Anthony Wichlacz, who preceded her in death in 2005. Mrs. Wichlacz is survived by two daughters, Emma (Louis) Walker of Jamestown, IN, and Carol Jean (John) Kissinger of South Bend; one son, James (Christine) Wichlacz of South Bend; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bernard Nowicki of South Bend and Thaddeus Nowicki of Valparaiso. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony, Louis and Bud Nowicki. Mrs. Wichlacz was a member of the Ladies of Moose of Dowagiac. Her parents both came from Poland. Being from a good Polish family, she spoke the language well. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend.
