James J. Mikolajczak, 81, of Helena, MT, formerly of South Bend passed away on March 13, 2023. James “Jim” was born on October 9, 1941, in South Bend to the late Clem and Ann (Hyduk) Mikolajczak. Jim attended St. Adalbert’s and Central High School and worked at the St. Joseph County Court House in the records department. He moved to Portland, OR in 1978 where he worked at Hyster Corp as a steel cutter. Jim loved river rafting and would take groups white water rafting down the Deschutes River. In 1998 he moved to Pahrump, NV. He enrolled in culinary school in Las Vegas and became a chef at the Golden Nugget casino. There he retired as a chef and moved to Helena, MT in 2007 where he enjoyed his retirement years in the beautiful mountains. He would take trips to the San Juan Islands in Washington State, drive to Seattle and take a cruise ship to Alaska. Jim loved the outdoors. He will truly be missed by his family. He is survived by his two sons, Steve (Annie) Mikolajczak and Don (Kathy) Mikolajczak; daughter, Dawn Mikolajczak; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Hess and Bea Tomkiewicz; brother, Charlie (Georgia) Mikolajczak and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Per Jim’s wishes there will be no visitation or services. Cremation has taken place in Helena, MT.
