Michael James McKenna, Sr., 64, residing in South Bend, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 2, 2021, while working in Cassopolis, MI. He was born October 15, 1956, in South Bend to the late George James and Adelia (Raymond) McKenna. On October 16, 1976, in South Bend, Michael married the former Maxine M. Varga, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 44 years, he is survived by his daughter, Melisa M. McKenna of South Bend; son, Michael J. McKenna, Jr., of South Bend; four grandchildren, Courtney Lynne Jackson, James LeRoy Jackson, Dale Lee Jackson and Winter Nichole Jackson; as well as two sisters, Linda Middleton and Sandy Chevrie, both of South Bend; one brother, Tom McKenna of Ulin, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by sisters, Norma Cox, Judy Crume and Janice Hagye; and brothers, Charles and Richard McKenna. Michael was a father and friend to many. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Michael was employed by Wissco Irrigation prior to his death. He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, playing horseshoes, and baking. He also loved following Notre Dame sports. Funeral services for Michael will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, August 9, 2021, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Monday in the funeral home prior to services.
