===========
Husband of Mary Elizabeth (Hahn) Boocher (1858-1917). Mary and John were married about 1874 and had ten children together including: Francis "Frankie," Ida May, William, Etta, Elmer, Myrtle, Bessie, Edna E., Wallace L. and Daniel F. Boocher. After Mary died, John married Christena (Strombeck) Harlan Boocher on February 17, 1920 in Bremen, Marshall, Indiana. John was the son of Samuel Boocher and Judith "Judie" "Juda" (Shook) Boocher.
Obituary from The Bremen Enquirer, March 21, 1940, Bremen, Indiana:
John Boocher, nearly 100 years old, died at 7:45 o'clock, Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harmon Simon, northwest of Bremen. He had been ill for several months. Mr. Boocher was born in Ohio November 15, 1840, the son of Samuel and Judie (Schock) Boocher. He was ninety-nine years, four months and two days old at the time of his death. He was one of the well known farmers of St. Joseph county where he spent most of his life. Surviving relatives are three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Etta Mikel of South Bend, Elmer Boocher of Orland, Mrs. Myrtle Sauer of Lakeville, Daniel Boocher of Mishawaka and Mrs. Simon of Bremen. There are twenty-nine grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Mennonite Brethren in Christ church. Rev. C. A. Wright officiated in the service and burial was in the Bremen Cemetery.
Please note: There are several birth year dates given for John Boocher. The obit says 1840, the headstone says 1843. According to the census records, it is more likely that John's birth date was actually November 15, 1847 or even November 15, 1848. I would suspect it was November 15, 1847 given that he was 3 years old on the 1870 census. The census records give his birth year (calculated) as follows:
1870 - age 3 (about 1846, 1847)
1860 - age 11 (1848, 1849)
1870 - age 21 (1848, 1849)
1880 - age 30 (1849, 1850)
1900 - age 52 (1847. 1848)
1910 - age 62 (1847,1848)
1920 - age 64 -- this census is incorrect
1930 - age 86 - this census is also incorrect
John was buried on March 20, 1940.
Another (possibly confusing) piece of information is that John married Christena (Strombeck) Harlan (widow of Erastus Harlan) in 1920, however she went back to using her first husband's last name prior to 1940.
