Robert J. "Corky" Corthier Sr.
March 24, 1933 - Oct. 4, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Robert J. "Corky" Corthier Sr., 77, of South Bend, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Monday, October 4th, in his residence after suffering an apparent heart attack. Mr. Corthier was born on March 24, 1933, in South Bend, and had resided in the area his lifetime. On May 19, 1956, in South Bend, he married the former Betsy R. Medich, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Missy Glon of South Bend; and three sons, Robert J. Corthier Jr. and Christian J. Corthier, both of South Bend, and Donald N. (Lisa) Corthier of Buchanan, MI; two grandchildren, Christopher and Justin Glon; and great-granddaughter, Katelin Glon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Corthier retired as a brick mason, and for many years owned the Sells-Corthier Construction Company in South Bend. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and was proud of his military service. He was a member of the Brick Layers Union, Operators Union and Indiana Farm Bureau. He raised Standard Bred Horses for may years, and was an avid sports fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He loved Notre Dame football. Mr. Corthier looked forward to spending the winters in Florida which he did for many years.
The family request all memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 7th, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road, Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, with Fr. David Porterfield officiating. Burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery, with military graveside services. The HANLEY & SONS Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy to the Corthier family.
