New Carlisle - Edmund "Ed" Luczkowski Jr., 86, passed away on Wednesday. Edmund was born May 28, 1935 in South Bend to Edmund Sr. and Gazella (Kaman) Luczkowski. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fred Luczkowski. On August 21, 1954, Ed married the love of his life Phyllis Dudeck. She survives along with their children; Kathy (Phillip) Lechtanski and David Luczkowski; grandchildren, Phillip "PJ" (Loriann) Lechtanski Jr., Kelly (Timothy) Wells, Neal Lechtanski, Meghan (Timothy) Berkheiser, Merideth (Amanda) Minchski; great-grandchildren, Edmund "EJ" Lechtanski, Jaina Wells, Whitney & Owen Berkheiser, Ryleigh & Corwin Minchski; and a brother, John (Janice) Luczkowski. Ed graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1953. He honorably served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. Ed worked for the USPS from 1961 until retiring in 1990. He was a former Union Steward for NALC Branch 330. Ed was a member of the St. Joe Club and American Legion Post 357. Ed was a dedicated family man and adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Some of his happiest moments consisted of his family gathered around his table playing euchre. He loved to fish and shared that love of fishing with his family. He was actively involved in coaching and did so for his son's and grandsons' baseball and basketball teams. Ed had a big heart and was loved by many. He will be dearly missed. All services are private at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
