[N4732] Claude J. Zakrocki
March 23, 1926 - Jan. 10, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Claude John Zakrocki, 86, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Healthwin Specialized Services. Claude was born on March 23, 1926, to the late Theodore & Elenora (Szymankowski) Zakrocki, the youngest and lone survivor of twelve brothers and sisters. He proudly enlisted in the Army in 1944, and served as an anti-tank gun crewman, and was honorably discharged in 1946, decorated with citations of Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupation-Japan. Upon returning home to his family, he worked at Drewerys Brewery with his brothers until it closed, and then at Notre Dame where he retired. Known as "Bones," Claude was a gentle, kind, easy going spirit, with a big heart. He had a strong devotion and love to his faith, the Blessed Mother and Family. He enjoyed all sports, especially Notre Dame, feeding the birds, nature, taking care of family and visiting friends. Claude was preceded in death by his entire family, niece, Linda Rice, and nephew, Gregory Petry, and his cats, "Peanuts" and "Patches." Survivors include nieces and nephews. Heartfelt gratitude to Father Ron of Christ the King Catholic and the entire staff at Healthwin Hospital for all of their support and special care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Catholic Church, 415 N. Brookfield St., South Bend, IN 46628; Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th. Street, Mishawaka, Indiana 46544; or the Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637. There will be no visitation; cremation has already taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Claude, May you rest in Peace and "Happy Landings." I will miss you! Love, Tina. Condolences may be made at www.sjfh.net.
