ELKHART - Rev. Joseph Sabo Jr., age 86, of Hubbard Hill Village, entered into the presence of his Lord, at 9:28 am, Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness. He was born April 19, 1927 in Clarksville, PA to Joseph and Julia (Smoggi) Sabo. On August 24, 1949, he married Hazel Marie Tremba in Pittgas, PA. Mr. Sabo was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Seaman 1st Class. He was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson High School in Jefferson, PA. He graduated from Houghton College in Houghton, NY, receiving a Bachelor's degree in Theology. He received his Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education at Indiana University of PA, and a Master's Degree in English Literature, a Principal's Certification and Assistant Superintendent Certification from Penn State University. He received his Pastoral Ordination with the Missionary Church. He was an English teacher at Altoona High School, Altoona, PA for 27 years. He was a Pastor in the Missionary Church for 34 years, and a District Superintendent in the Missionary Church for 12 years. Mr. Sabo was a member of the Nappanee Missionary Church and former member and Pastor of the Frankstown Park Missionary Church in Hollidaysburg, PA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching his grandsons play sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Mr. Sabo is survived by his wife, Hazel; sons, Joseph Mark (Jean) Sabo, Nappanee and Jonathan Roy (Jennifer) Sabo, Orange City, IA; grandsons, Joseph Mark Sabo, Goshen and Joshua Martin (Tiffany) Sabo, Port Huron, MI; a great granddaughter, Scarlette Sabo; and sister Norma (John) Patrick, Rices Landing, PA. Family and friends may call from 7-9 pm Sunday, August 4 at the Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel and for 1 hour prior to the 11:00 am Funeral Service Monday, August 5. Pastor Joe Focht, Nappanee Missionary Church and Rev. Sabo's grandson, Pastor Josh Sabo will officiate. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Frankstown Park Missionary Church in Hollidaysburg, PA. There will be visitation for 1 hour prior to the 10:00 am Funeral Service. Pastor Roland Cadle and Pastor Josh Sabo will officiate. Burial will take place in the Alto Rest Cemetery in Altoona, PA. Memorial contributions may be given to Colonial Woods Venue Church where his grandson , Josh Sabo pastors or World Missionary Press. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
