SOUTH BEND - Evelyn Nyikos died Friday. Survivors include daughter, Cindy (Douglas) Black; sons, Joseph Nyikos, Richard Nyikos, Jeffrey Nyikos, John Nyikos, and Michael (Kelly) Nyikos; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Pietrzak; stepsister, Kathleen Greene; and stepbrother, David Shidler. Visitation is 2-4 & 6-8 pm Sunday in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. Funeral is 10 am Monday in the funeral home. Burial in Riverview Cemetery.

SOUTH BEND - Evelyn A. Nyikos, 88, passed away at 3:20 am Friday, September 14, 2012, in the Golden Living Center of Elkhart. Evelyn was born June 28, 1924, to the late John and Ann (Shidler) Pietrzak. On September 27, 1941, Evelyn married John Nyikos, who preceded her in death in 1990. Evelyn was also preceded in death by two grandchildren; a brother, John Pietrzak; and sisters, Jeanette Perry and Sue Bella. Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Douglas) Black; sons, Joseph M. Nyikos, Richard A. Nyikos, Jeffrey L. Nyikos, John R. Nyikos and Michael F. (Kelly) Nyikos; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Pietrzak; half-sister, Kathleen Greene; and half-brother, David Shidler. Evelyn retired in 2002 after 35 years of service with St. Mary's College as Food Service Manager. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting by making many afghans. She loved to cook, ND football, and enjoyed NASCAR; Jimmy Johnson was her favorite driver. She had a love of nature. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and had a green thumb. She loved children and enjoyed flying out to visit her sons and grandchildren in California and Texas. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and hospice staff at Golden Living Center in Elkhart for their exceptional care of our loved one. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm today, September 16, 2012, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, September 17, 2012, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
