SOUTH BEND - Douglas L. Alwine Sr. of Rogers Street, South Bend, passed away at his home after an illness. He was born in South Bend, Indiana, on June 23, 1941, to Howard and Elmira (Brunner) Alwine, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Karen of 49 years, along with his children: Douglas (Angie) Alwine Jr., Christina Allen, David Allen and Teresa Woodrum; seven grandchildren: Jason Slisz, Douglas Alwine III, Darnell Alwine, Davon Alwine, Danielle Alwine, Alicia Alwine and Aaliyah Alwine; and three great-grandchildren, Jason Slisz Jr., Klarissa Slisz and Braxton Alwine. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Howard "J.R." Alwine, Warren "Skip" Alwine, Kenneth "Dewey" Alwine and James "Jimmy" Alwine. Douglas enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and gardening and an occasional trip to the casino. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice for all of the loving care given to Douglas and his family during his illness. There will be no funeral services.
