Martha Van De Velde

SOUTH BEND - Martha Van de Velde, 84, of South Ironwood Drive, died after an illness at 2:30am Saturday in St Joseph Medical Center. Mrs. Van de Velde retired in 1975 as owner of Ray's Bike Shop. She was born December 18, 1910, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On February 11, 1932, in South Bend, as Martha DeLee, she married George J. Van de Velde. He died in 1959. Surviving area a daughter, Alice Chrzan of South Bend; a son, Rene of San Diego; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Schoonaert of South Bend; and a brother, Frank o South Bend. She was a former member of the Rosary Society of St Stephen Catholic Church and Harvest House of Holy Family Catholic Church. Services will be at 1pm Monday in St Stephen Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8pm today in St Joseph Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 4pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
