Raymond J. Mooney, 90, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, following an illness. He was born on October 21, 1926 to the late Arthur Patrick and Grace Leona (Beach) Mooney in Evansville, IN, and has lived in South Bend since 1948. Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Mooney Welter in 1982; three sisters; and seven brothers. Raymond graduated in 1944 from Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, IN, and was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He retired in 1991 from Young Door Company/Jeldwin in Plymouth, IN, where he was employed as a Systems Analyst for 20 years. On April 14, 1951, he married Joan Schneider at St. Matthew Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joan Mooney; one daughter, Sheila (Terry) McKinney of South Bend; two sons, Tim (Andrea) Mooney of Chicago, IL; Circus-Szalewski (Catherine) of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Tim, Justin, and Daniel Lane; Annie Mooney; one great-grandchild, Adin Lane; and a sister, Betty Koressel of Evansville, IN. Raymond was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, where he was an Usher at the church; Honorary Parishioner of St. Stanislaus Parish; and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Raymond was a die-hard Cubs fan. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
