Alex J. Prentkowski, 87, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2005. He was born March 28, 1918, to Stanley and Frances (Wicher) Prentkowski who preceded him in death. Alex was also preceded in death by a son, James S. Prentkowski and one sister, Gladys Sobieski.

On Oct. 9, 1943, Alex married Margaret Grzesk who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah Ann (Michael) Carson of South Bend; a son, Terry Prentkowski of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Bonnie Harbor, James Prentkowski, Michael Carson II and Tracy Carson; four great-grandchildren, A. J. Brooke, Sydney and Sam; and one sister, Clara Rosemarynowski of South Bend.

Alex was a supervisor at AM General, retiring in 1983 after 18 years of services. He was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 50 and VFW 1167.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5, 2005 from 3 to 7 p.m. in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619. Services will be Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
