GRANGER, IN - Ralph Edward Prawat, 88, peacefully passed away on March 7, 2021, after a valiant 4 year battle with cancer, with his loving wife of 37 years at his side. Ralph entered this world on July 4, 1932, in South Bend, IN, the son of Walter E. Prawat and Lillian S. Prawat (Uranski). On July 4, 1984, Ralph was united in marriage to Gloria Jean Miller. They shared an unconditional love and unwavering commitment to their blended family. Ralph lived his entire life in South Bend, IN. In addition to his wife Gloria, Ralph is survived by his son, Greg Prawat (Judith); his daughters, Diane Triest (Dan), Sharon Smorin (Andy), Jennifer Prawat and Lori Wright; stepsons, Scott Miller (Sally) and Robbie Evans (Mindy); and his stepdaughter, Dee Dee Filer (Edward). Ralph is also survived by a brother, Dr. Jim Prawat (Carole). In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his stepson, Jason Evans; grandson, Chris Triest; his brother, Joseph Prawat; and sister, Rosemarie Szuba. Ralph’s legacy includes 18 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Ralph attended St. Joseph’s grade school and South Bend Central High School. Ralph loved golfing with his “Sunday Morning Guys” and his son-in-law Ed Filer. In addition to golf, Ralph’s passions were the Cubs, Notre Dame sports, all types of jazz music, a good cigar with a nip of scotch, fireworks, his black leather cap and his German shepherd, Domino (deceased). He leaves his Siberian husky, Ginger, behind. Ralph was an avid reader. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening with Gloria and talking to his cardinals. He attended many Indy 500’s, loved horse racing and dined often with Gloria’s YaYa’s as one of the girls. During his lifetime, Ralph was employed at Bendix, Simon Brothers, Hoosier Lottery and Meridian Title. Ralph also owned and operated the Beau Jeff Restaurant for several years in downtown South Bend. Ralph was honored to be named a Distinguished Hoosier by Governor Evan Bayh. He was also a member of the Scottish Right, was a 32 Degree Mason, and a Past Master with the Council Oak Lodge #745. The family holds many fond memories with Ralph of family birthdays, pool parties at Sharon’s and Greg’s homes, get togethers at The Filer Family Farm, as well as numerous trips to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. Ralph was a gentle, loving, hard-working, supportive and humorous man. He will be greatly missed. Many thanks to Heart to Heart Hospice and Wellbrooke Nursing Home. Private services for immediate family only will be held at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka, IN.
