Robert was born in Idaville, White County, Indiana to Frances Marion Scroggs and Jeannie Lucille Marvin. He served in the US Army in WWII. Robert was married to Madeline Hattie Damrow. He died in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana. Robert G. Scroggs , 87, of 27th Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in his residence. He was born on Feb. 21, 1916, in Idaville, Ind., to Francis and Jenny (Marvin) Scroggs . He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vivian Binney and Esther Working; and by his twin brother, Richard. On Oct. 6, 1946, in South Bend, he married Madeline Damrow, who also preceded him in death on Oct. 17, 2001. Mr. Scroggs was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation and worked as a custodian at Central High School and LaSalle High School where he retired in 1985. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in a medical unit, and was a life member of the First Seventh-day Adventist Church of South Bend. Mr. Scroggs is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and William Tanner, and Bonnie and Joseph Sima, both of South Bend; his three sons, Douglas Scroggs of South Bend, Donald and his wife, Lorraine of West Lake, Calif., and John Scroggs of South Bend. He is lovingly remembered by six grandchildren, LaVonne Scroggs , Matthew Broglin, Kristin Scroggs , LeAnne Scroggs , Jonathan Scroggs and Amie Scroggs . He also had several nieces and nephews, and their children whom he dearly loved. Mr. Scroggs was a soft-spoken man with a gentle spirit and a sweet heart. He had a witty sense of humor and loved his Savior, his wife , his children and animals. He is now resting with his beloved wife until Jesus comes to take them home. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 17, at 1 p.m. in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, with Cynthia Chrapliwy and Edna Jean Knox officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
