SOUTH BEND - Karen Marie Cegielski, 54, of South Bend, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017, at home. Karen was born November 14, 1962 in South Bend, the daughter of the late Matthew and Peg (Gerbasich) Cegielski. She was a graduate of Marian High School and was a life-long South Bend resident. Karen was employed for many years at the South Bend Tribune and also spent several years at K-Mart in Mishawaka. She loved animals and at one time worked at the Humane Society of St. Joseph County. Karen attended Little Flower Catholic Church. She was an avid Notre Dame Girls Basketball fan. Karen's surviving family includes her two brothers, Gregory (Lori) Cegielski of Portage, Michigan and Terry (Sheila) Cegielski of South Bend; an aunt, Jane Gerbasich of South Bend; and two nieces and one nephew. Besides her parents, Karen was also preceded in death by three uncles, Frank, Victor and Paul Gerbasich; as well as one nephew. Karen's family will receive friends at a memorial visitation on Friday, January 20, from 4 - 6 pm in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Burial will be at a later date in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Memorials are suggested to Karen's family to assist with final expenses.
