SOUTH BEND - Ruth Ann Ryker, 84 years old, passed away on Jan. 18th following an illness. She was born on March 5, 1929, in South Bend, IN. A lifelong resident of South Bend, she worked at Robertson's Department Store in South Bend. She also worked for Naturalizer Shoes at Scotts-dale & University Park Malls. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony de Padua Church for 62 years. She belonged to the Lady's Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Police & was on the reunion committee of Riley High School. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph & Ruth (Condon) Torok; and her sister, Geraldine "Jerry" Van Camp. She was married to Russell D. Ryker on May 29, 1948. They were married 51 years before he passed away in 1999. Surviving are her children, Connie Jo Swanson (Gary) living in Homestead, FL, and Rick J. Ryker (Linda) living in Granger, IN; grand-children, Vance Russell "Rusty" Young (Amie) living in Smyrna, TN, Andrew Joseph "Andy" Young (Anais) living in Homestead, FL, Shannon Lyn Ryker living in Delaware, OH, and Ryan Walter Ryker living in Granger, IN; and great-grandchildren, James Logan Young & Aubrey Mae Young. Special thanks to her goddaughter, Carrie (Maul) Smalley (Dave), for all their help. She enjoyed gambling at Las Vegas & the Blue Chip, and working in her yard. A private service will be held following cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.
