Margith Pocza, daughter of Paly & Kati (Horvath) Pocza, was baptised Mar. 3, 1870 in Himod, Sopron, Hungary. (Image of Hungarian Catholic Church record, familysearch.org) On Nov. 17, 1903, Marget Vida, 33, and Borbola Vida, 2, arrived at the port of New York aboard the S.S. Kroonland. They had come from Hungary and were on their way to South Bend, Indiana to join their husband and father, Steve Vida. According to the 1910 census of South Bend, Indiana, Steve Vida, a factory laborer, and his wife, Margarth, had both been born in Hungary, had been married 18 years, and she had had eight children of whom three were living and living at home (in birth order): Katie and Barbola born in Hungary, and Steve born in Indiana. Daughter Julianna, born in Indiana in 1904, had died in 1905, and had been buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Steve Vida, Sr. died in 1911. In 1912, daughter Catherine married Joseph Kish. In 1918, daughter Barbara married Walter Studer in LaPorte Co., Indiana. By 1920, Margaret and her son Steve were living with John Kovacs/Kovatch in Mishawaka, Indiana. rgaret Vida died in 1933 at the Mishawaka address. Her date and place of death are given in her Indiana death certificate for which John Kovatch was the informant. He reported that she was a widow. It was his understanding that she had been born Mar. 13, 1872 (sic) in Hungary to Paul Pocza.
