SOUTH BEND - Harold “Harry” Eugene Imus, 73, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017, at his home after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. Harold was born November 12, 1943, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Lloyd and Vivianna (Taggart) Imus. He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1963, where he was a four-year starter on the Cavemen football team. Following high school, he completed a Meat Cutting Apprenticeship to become a butcher, which was his lifelong career. On January 14, 1967, he married his love, the former Marlene Sobczyk, in South Bend, Indiana. Harold was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose face lit up every time he saw his children, grandchildren or nieces and nephews. He was a great brother who loved and cared for his brother and sisters deeply. He loved to hear about their lives. Harold had a love for people and life, as well as his cravings for orange slices, raspberry candies, and vanilla ice cream that he would eat in whole right out of the carton. He also enjoyed telling stories about his high school football playing days. Harold had a very positive outlook on life, and an unwavering faith in God and goodness of people in general. He could always be heard saying, “It's up to the Good Lord”, and believed this up to his last breath. Harold began his career at Thrifty Mart grocery store as a Meat Cutter, and then spent most of his later years as a Butcher at Kuberski Meat Market, with his specialty being producing the “Famous” Polish Sausage for the West Side of South Bend during the Christmas and Easter holidays. He retired a few years before his passing, but spent that time working at Shelton's Market, doing what he loved, cutting meat and talking to the customers. Harold is survived by his wife, Marlene (Sobczyk), daughter, Shelley (Tom) Templin of Granger, son, Brent (Kelly) Imus of Granger, son, Nicholas Imus of Mishawaka, grandchildren, Kevin Templin of Indianapolis, Eric Templin of Seattle, Washington, Quinn Imus of Granger, Aurora Imus of Granger, Bradley Imus of Mishawaka, and Brennan Imus of South Bend. He is also survived by sister, Patricia (James Clifford) Adams of Atoka, Oklahoma, brother, Lloyd Jr. (Clara) Imus of South Bend, sister, Mary (Ron) Ponton of Illinois, sister, Candice (Dennis) Bohnert of Tennessee, and sister, Katie (Chris) Schlotfeldt of South Bend. Harold was preceded in death by his Father, Lloyd Imus Sr. of Mishawaka, his Mother, Vivianna (Taggart) Imus of Mishawaka, and sister, Shirley (Cread) Long of Kankakee, Illinois. A special thank you to Heartland Hospice of South Bend for their loving care and support. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Friday June 2, 2017, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN 46628, with a Catholic funeral service to follow at 12 p.m. at Kaniewski Funeral Home as well.
