Mary Lou "Micki" Miller, 76, beloved wife, mother, friend and former First Lady of South Bend, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011. Micki was born on February 23, 1935 in Michigan City, IN to Raymond and Grace (Schoch) Taylor. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Jerry Miller of South Bend; her children, Robert of South Bend, Michael (Kimberly) of South Bend. Theresa (Drew) John of Philadelphia, PA and Beth Ann of Woodacre CA. Her beloved grandchildren, Nicole, Jerry, Michael, Andrew, Matthew, and Alexandra. She is also survived by a brother, Kenneth (Marge) Taylor of Traverse City, MI and two sisters, Bobbi (Tim) Ruhl, Jupiter FL and Cindy Graziano of Three Oaks, MI.
Micki danced and taught dancing from the age of three in Michigan City. She graduated from Elston High School. After marrying Jerry her high school sweetheart they moved to South Bend. She dedicated herself to raising her children and supporting her husband. She served as the City of South Bend's first lady during her husband's term as mayor. Micki was active in many activities that supported children. She served on many youth programs at St. Joseph Parish that included Camp Fire Girls, teaching CCD, youth group and the Christ Child Society.
Micki became an active member of St. Matthews parish after moving to the south side in 1971. She sang in the cathedrals choir for over 20 years until illness kept her from continuing. She took great pride in acting as a nanny for several children in her neighborhood after her four children were grown. Those fortunate to know her knew she enjoyed people and celebrated life. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and had a way of making everyone feel special.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 in the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami, South Bend. Rev. Jacob Runyon will officiate. Burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend at a later date. The family will receive friends from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.
