March 5, 1944 - Sept. 12, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Natalie Rose Plonka, 66, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010, in Hospice House, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on March 5, 1944, in South Bend, to the late Harry and Virginia (Zawodny) Plencner. On October 28, 1961, she married Julius Plonka, who survives. Along with her husband, she is survived by her three daughters, Kolleen (Michael) Sobieralski of South Bend, Korinne (Danny) Walter of Grovertown, IN, and Kristen (Ed Jr. "Buzz") Wesolowski of Walkerton, IN; her son, Kevin (Annette) Plonka of South Bend; 12 grandchildren, Matt, Cassie and Kenny Sobieralski, Amy and Alex Walter, Justin, Jake and Jacee Wesolowski, Nick, Kayla, Kamden and Logan Plonka; a great-granddaughter due in December; a sister, Marcia Deren of South Bend; and a brother, Jerome "Jerry" (Mary Jo) Plencner. Mrs. Plonka was part-owner of Forbes Office Equipment and had retired from Goodwill in March 2009. She also worked for Burger Dairy, Meerts Grocery Store and Kuberski Market. She volunteered at the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Gift Shop. Natalie was known and loved by all of her customers at Goodwill and was a "people person." She enjoyed going to the Casino, cooking and baking, and loved sitting with her dog, Sissy, and watching the hummingbirds. She was proud of her children and grandchildren (the dirty dozen). They were her greatest joy! Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Funeral services for Mrs. Plonka will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.
