SOUTH BEND - Sophie Romanowski died Thursday in Inwood Hills Estates. Survivors include children, Marcia Ann Romanowski, Anne Marie (Nick Cukrowicz) Romanowski, and Nancy Ann (Doug) Palmer. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm on Monday in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. Rosary at 4 pm. Funeral at 10 am on Tuesday in the Funeral Home. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. SOUTH BEND - Sophie R. Romanowski, 88, passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010, in Inwood Hills Estates. Sophie was born on June 7, 1921, in South Bend, to the late Stanley and Josephine (Drukala) Walczak. On April 26, 1941, in South Bend, Sophie married Thomas Romanowski, who passed away on October 21, 2007. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Bert Haluda, Felix Haluda and Stanly Walczak, and by a sister, Jane Dominiak. Sophie is survived by her children, Marcia Ann Romanowski, Anne Marie (Nick Cukrowicz) Romanowski and Nancy Ann (Doug) Palmer, all of South Bend; eight grandchildren, Angelique L. (Thomas Whitworth) Romanowski, Jacqueline L. (Chris) Jagger, Jared L. (Britney) Rouch, Joseph A. (Renea) Bromley, Justin A. (Carly) Bromley, April Lynn (Cory) Hamel, and Andrew Thomas (Elizabeth Ashley Morris) Jackson and David (Sarah) Palmer; 13 great-grandchildren, Christopher, Cody, Clay, Taylor, Jade, Brein, Kierston, Kierra, Kiegan, Dalaney, Isaiah, Owen and Colin; special friends, Joe Sosinski, Rick Childers, Brian Babicz and Sr. Anthony Kubat; lifelong friend, Sophie Gaddey; many cousins; and sisters-in-law, Pearl Haluda, Dorothy Romanowski and Irene Craft. Sophie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Sophie made banana bread for her grandkids and became known as "Bannany Granny" or "Buscie." She was the matriarch of the family. She made friends everywhere she went. We would like to thank the staff at Inwood Hills for their exceptional care for our mother. Your kindness will always remain in our hearts. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association of Northern Indiana, 6100 W. 96th St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
