SOUTH BEND - William Szilagyi, 99, of Walkerton, IN (formerly of South Bend, IN) passed away at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Millers Merry Manor-Walkerton. He was born on September 20, 1912 to John and Julia Szilagyi in Carteret, NJ, and has lived in South Bend since 1922, before moving to Walkerton in 2006. Mr. Szilagyi retired in 1974 from Raco Corporation, where he worked as a Press Operator for 40 years. On April 10, 1937, he married Helen Magdalinski in South Bend, IN. She died on February 18, 1996. Along with his wife, Helen; William was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Julia Jaronik. Mr. Szilagyi was a member of Holy Cross Parish, where he belonged to the usher's club for 32 years. William was an avid Notre Dame fan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 920 Wilber Street, South Bend, IN, where friends may visit, at the church, one hour prior to mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Millers Merry Manor, 500 Walkerton Trail, Walkerton, IN 46574.
