[N18699] DEATH HALTS TRIAL OF SLAYING SUSPECT Man Who Confessed Killing Wife, Doctor, Succumbs in Prison Hospital. MICHIGAN CITY, Ind., Sept. 13 (T)
Death has erased from the court records the case of Leo Dembinski of South Bend. Dembinski died yesterdav of tuberculosis in the state prison hospital , here. His death came just a week before he was to be returned to South Bend for trial on a murder charge. In March, 1930, Dembinski shot and killed his wife, Clemtina, ana ur. j. L. Curtis, a Negro physician. He then surrendered to ponce, i After making several contacting confessions he was indicted for murder but was adjudged insane and committed to the state prison hospital. Recently Adjudged Sane. Recently the hospital superintendent certified that Dembinski had regained his santiy, and Circuit Judge Dan Pyle at South Bend announced that the prisoner would be returned to that city and tried on the murder charge. Police at South Bend said they were inclined to believe a confession which Dembinski said he killed his wife and the Negro physician because he found them in a compromising position.
