[N16835] Verna Renaud
Aug. 20, 1925 - May 28, 2017
ELKHART - Verna Renaud, 91, of Elkhart, passed away at Elkhart General Hospital on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Verna was born on August 20, 1925, to the late Walter and Edna (Desjardins) Poupard in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. After graduating from high school she wed Philip Renaud on January 15, 1944. While her children were in high school Verna took a job at the American Legion Post 26 where she was a cook for many years. She cooked for all the weddings, banquets, and the Friday night fish fry, and 17 years later she retired as their manager. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, and watching out the windows of her corner lot. Verna also attended St. Mary Catholic Church, and when her health prevented her from getting around to do the things she liked she often watched cooking shows and Mass on T.V. The biggest highlight of her day was when her family would call or stop by for a surprise visit. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Terry Renaud; grandsons, Aaron Payne and Steven Lakes; and siblings, Leonard and Walter “Pete” Poupard, Rita Bellaire, and Delores Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Pam (Paul) Barbour of Elkhart, Carol (Don) Hartman of Niles; grandchildren, Paul (Tammy) Barbour, Steven (Michele) Barbour, Kristin (Tony) Nichols, Joe Payne, Annette (Curtis) Gunter, Philip (Felicia) Renaud, Alisha Binder, Greg Dohner, and Tammy Dohner; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with a time of sharing and recitation of The Rosary at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles. Condolences, photos, and memories may be left for the family at www.BrownFuneralHomeNiles.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Niles.
