SOUTH BEND - Helen L. Nowacki, 92, passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009, in the Sanctuary of St. Joseph, South Bend. Helen was born on April 14, 1917, in South Bend, to the late Ignacy and Martha (Kapusta) Skwiat. She married Irvin P. Nowacki Sr., who preceded her in death on November 27, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Walter Skwiat and Anthony Skwiat; and by her two sisters, Charlotte Skwiat and Carrie Dziubinski-Kowalski. She is survived by her three children, John E. (Marie) Nowacki, Irvin Pete (Kathy) Nowacki Jr. and Mary K. (Ron) Pecsi, all of South Bend; five grandchildren, John E. (Charity) Nowacki Jr. of Rainyville, KY, Todd (Kim) Nowacki of Greenwood, IN, Kimberly (Chris) Miller of South Bend, Deborah (Brian) Frick of South Bend and Judith Miller of Mishawaka; and 10 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dylan, Emily, Alexandria, Olivia, Gavin, McKenna, Finnegan, Melanie and Samantha. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church and was a member of St. Hedwig Civic Club, Grandma's Club, Golden Cluster, Mother of Marines and Army-Navy Zell Post. Helen enjoyed playing Bingo at St. Hedwig and was an avid Cubs fan. She worked for Wilson Brothers, Enro and Gladieux Food service before retiring. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, in Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Family Building Fund, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend IN 46619. For those who are unable to attend the funeral Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
