SOUTH BEND - Mary L. Kalinowski, 69, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, with her family by her bedside at Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle, IN. Mary was born on February 23, 1941, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Claude O. and Dairus A. (Milam) Pickle. Mary was preceded in death by her husband John, who passed away in 2007, her parents, a sister, Patsy Robinson, and a brother, John Colley. Mary is survived by five children, Glen Miller of South Bend, Kathi Kalinowski of Mishawaka, Kelli Zach of South Bend, John Kalinowski of South Bend and Julie Weiss of Huntington Beach, CA. Mary was a loving and caring grandmother to numerous grandchildren; she helped raised three of her grandchildren, Kristy Wise, Alexis Fuller and Taylor Roher. Also surviving are two brothers, Claude (Judy) Colley and Lamar (Betty) Colley, and a sister, Helen (Chris) Shreve, all of South Bend, IN. Mary graduated from Riley High School in 1959. She was a waitress at the University of Notre Dame for over 25 years. Mary would like to go for walks. She would look for bargains at the neighborhood garage sales, she was an avid photographer, and her hobby was doing ceramics. She enjoyed traveling and going on vacation. Mary was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who cherished her family most of all. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 28th, with Rev. Ervin Mize officiating at the funeral home. Burial is to follow the service at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, PO Box 4204, South Bend, IN 46634.
