CHONG CHA (SHIN) MAYS
March 10, 1946 - Jan. 10, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Chong Cha (Shin) Mays, 62, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away of natural causes at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Chong was born March 10, 1946, in Seoul, South Korea. She was preceded in death by her husband Terry on July 3, 2007. She and Terry met while he was on tour in Korea during his service in the Air Force. Chong is survived by her sister, Oky (David) Lukaszewski of Osceola, and her nephew, Russell Lukaszewski of Osceola, along with her brother-in- law, Timothy Mays of South Bend, and three sisters-in-law, Kathleen Gregg of Osceola, Noreen (Ron) Ingle of Lakeville, and Laureen (Brian) Michalski of South Bend. Chong was also preceded in death by her infant nephew, Wesley Lukaszewski in 1978. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, in the Michiana Korean Church, 24990 C.R. 10 in Elkhart, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola . Chong was employed for 25 years at Allied Products in South Bend. In her spare time she and her husband Terry had their own softball team, "CCM," in the South Bend leagues, and enjoyed bowling leagues also. Chong loved pets, especially her three dogs, Mario, Max and Sherman. She was a member of the Michiana Korean Church in Elkhart and enjoyed helping others. She was known by her family to have a "big heart," and was caring and generous, because she would often give to others in need, even before her needs were met. She will be missed greatly. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapelhillmemorial.com .
