Norma Jean Eberhard Verduin

Norma Jean (Eberhard) Verduin, 96 years old, passed away the morning of Monday, March 13, 2023 at Raclin House in Mishawaka, Indiana. She was born to the late Raymond and Ruth (Saunders) Eberhard on July 9, 1926 in Royal Oak, Michigan. In 1931, she moved to Niles where she eventually was united in marriage to Albert F. Verduin on June 13, 1948. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, who passed away in February 2001, as well as one daughter, Betty “BJ” Wilson; one son-in-law, Russell Stickney; two brothers, Wallace B. (Charlotte) and John G. Eberhard; and one sister, Bette Rae Eberhard. Norma is survived by two daughters, Linda Stickney of South Bend and Carol (David Ortinau) Livingstone of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; one son, John (Cindy) Verduin of Granger, Indiana; one son-in-law, Chuck Wilson; five grandchildren, Amy Makinen of South Bend, Hailey (Aaron) Sheets of Granger, Colleen (Michael) Welsch of Granger, Maureen (Jonathan) Oliver of Granger, and Scott (Jiye) Verduin of Seoul, South Korea; six great grandchildren, Emma Jean Makinen of South Bend, Claire Sophia Sheets of Granger, Lily Jean Makinen of South Bend, Molly Grace Oliver of Granger, Lucy Paige Oliver of Granger, and Elsie Capri Welsch of Granger. Norma was in the graduating Niles High School Class of 1944, before going on to graduate from the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She went on to work as a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital. She was part of the US Cadet Nurse Corp and attended IUSB for some time. The greatest love and joys in her life were her family and extended family, her friends, and her Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care. She also enjoyed music, reading, and travel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, Indiana 46615, with a visitation for two hours prior. A graveside service will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana. Contributions in Norma’s memory may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, Indiana 46545.
