Josephine Skarbek

SOUTH BEND - Josephine Skarbek, 106, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation. Josephine was born on September 8, 1907, in Tyczyn, Poland, to Wincentego and Katarzyna (Dudek) Jamroz. She was widowed at a young age and raised her children alone and was instrumental in their success. She was a wonderful Mother and Busia and very proud of her children and grandchildren. Josephine married Anthony Skarbek. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1947. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter and six sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Dolores (Mel) Kulwicki and Carol (Jim) Zalas, both of South Bend, Indiana; one son, Jerry (Pat) Skarbek of Niles, Michigan; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-great-grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Skarbek and Lillian Skarbek. A Polish Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, in St. Adalbert Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Monday in the church. Josephine was a longtime member of St. Adalbert Parish. The family wishes to thank the staff at West Bend Nursing and Rehabilitation and Josephine's roommate, Angie, for their loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
