SOUTH BEND - Darlene M. Hoover, 83, passed away quietly in her home Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Darlene was born in South Bend, Indiana, on July 12, 1933. Darlene married Dale E. Hoover on April 30, 1955, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1998. Also preceded in death by Louis Walkowiak (Uncle Lefty), and her nephew, Kirk Walkowiak. Her parents, Louis & Lucille Walkowiak. Darlene is survived by her two sons, Tim (Tawnn) and David (Brooke), and her grandchildren, Gabrielle, Tyler, Emily, Catherine, Brendan, Anni (Jared), and her sister-in-law, Gloria Walkowiak. Native of South Bend, she attended Holy Cross grade school and St. Joseph academy. Darlene and Dale began their life's adventure in Edinburgh, Scotland. Darlene retired from St. Joe County Auditor's office in 2013 after more than 15 years. Active in the community with St. Joe County Auditor's retiree club, St. Anthony's luncheon club, St. Hedwig Golden Clusters senior group, St. Casmir Harvest House, St. Stanislaus Harvest House, St. John's senior group, St. Stan's senior group, her bridge club, The Girls Club and The Pastels Club. She truly enjoyed traveling with Southfield travel group. Darlene was a devoted Catholic and active parishioner with St. Anthony's Catholic Church. With her strength, acceptance and whimsical class, she was an inspiration and role model to her children, grandchildren and everyone she met. Best known as a social butterfly and the life of the party with both friends and family. She was truly one of a kind. Darlene cherished every moment with her family and lifelong friends. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 pm Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, Indiana. Rosary at 3:00 pm.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 2114 East Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana; visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m with the Mass being celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Darlene's honor to St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in South Bend.
