SOUTH BEND - Betty Marie Bogle Pilarski, age 95, beloved wife of the late Edward Martin Pilarski Sr., died peacefully February 20, 2015, at the home of her daughter. She was born October 21, 1919, in Ticonderoga, New York, to the late Lester F. and Sara L. Bogle. Surviving are her daughter, AnneMarie (Terry) Dawson of South Bend, IN; and son, Edward Martin (Donna) Pilarski, Jr, of Schenectady, NY; granddaughter, Elizabeth A. (Paul) Drake of South Bend, IN; and great-grandchildren, Atticus, Norah, Tegegn and Tiruye Drake. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews, all of whom showered her with love. Betty was also pre-deceased by her brother, William (Frances) Bogle, sisters, Margaret (George) Osborn, Florence (William) Kelly and Charlotte (William) Hislop. Betty was Salutatorian of the Class of 1937, Ticonderoga Central High School, received her Bachelor's Degree from Albany Teachers College and Master's Degree from Russell Sage College. Immediately upon graduating from Albany Teachers College, she taught French, Latin and Math. She became the first licensed Special Education teacher in the State of New York, and taught Special Education for many years in the Schenectady City Schools. She served as an officer of the Schenectady chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Club. Betty met her husband, Eddie, in Ticonderoga, New York, at the age of 14. They were married on July 18, 1944, and lived in Schenectady, New York, spending summers on Black Point, in Ticonderoga. Summers were filled with family, lake activities, golfing at the Ticonderoga Country Club with family, bingo, and s'mores around the fire. Betty was a wonderful mother and teacher. She never lost her joy in being with children. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Sterling House of South Bend and to the Center for Hospice Care for the outstanding care they gave Betty. Family and friends will gather at a future date at Tiroga (Black) Point for a time of remembrance.
