SOUTH BEND - Genevieve "Jean" Kaczorowski, 93, of South Bend, IN, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the Sanctuary at St. Joseph in South Bend. She was born November 24, 1916, in South Bend, to Frank and Mary Ann (Badowski) Bankowski. Jean retired on May 21, 1984, from St. Michaels Laundry-Priest and Altar Garments at the University of Notre Dame after 15 years of service. On May 17, 1947, Jean married John Kaczororwski who preceded her in death on April 21, 1985. Surviving is her daughter Monice Kaczorowski (Tracey Smith) of Itasca, IL; her son, Dr. Gregory Kaczorowski (Dr. Maria Luisa Garcia) of Edison, NJ; sisters, Helen Pierce of South Bend, IN, Dolores Mull of Phoenix, AZ; and a brother, Don Bankowski of Phoenix, AZ. Sisters, Regina Kazda, Henrietta Fournier, Alice DeBel, Clara Lupa, and brothers, Ray and Harry "Kelly" Bankowski all preceded her in death. Jean was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and St. John's Retirees Club. She was a loving mother to her two children and a devoted wife. She was a wonderful baker and an accomplished gardener with a specialty in raising roses. She was an avid Notre Dame football fan. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame with entombment to follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN.
