William Tschida
Nov. 8, 1922 - May 15, 2016
NILES - William Tschida, age 93 years of Avon Park, Florida, died on Sunday, May 15, 2016, in Sebring, Florida, following an illness. He was born on November 8, 1922, in South Bend, Indiana, to John and Rose (Sieracki) Tschida. He was graduated from South Bend Central High School. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, and later owned and operated Shamrock Development, Inc. in South Bend. He moved from South Bend to Avon Park in 1990. Bill was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Avon Park. He enjoyed golfing and University of Notre Dame football. He was a gifted wood carver, using settings from nature as subjects. More than anything, his family brought his greatest joy. On December 28, 1944, at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles, he married the former Marianne T. Martin. The remarkable Sixty-Eighth Anniversary of their wedding was sadly marked by the death of Marianne on December 28, 2012. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Violet Tidewell. Surviving family includes his son, William J. (& Kathryn) Tschida of Bernalillo, New Mexico; grandchildren, Sarah (& John) Douglass, Marty (& Meghan) Tschida, and Tom (& Lindsay) Tschida; great-grandchildren, Clark and Abby Douglass, and Danielle and Nolan Tschida; and his companion, Florence Mariano. The Mass of Christian Burial for William Tschida will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. Alphonse Savarimuthu, MSFS, of the parish. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles, and will conclude with Full Military Honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to Saint Mary Catholic Church.
