From the SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE, May 10, 1940:

Mrs. Joseph Szymanowski, aged 70, of 212 North Studebaker street, died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday in her home after an illness of four weeks. Born in Poland, June 20, 1869, she came to South Bend from that country 33 years ago. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Szymanowski, three sons, John of Waukegan, Ill., Marion and Aloysius, of South Bend; four daughters, Mrs. Salomea Gorniewicz, Mrs. Angela Bartkowiak, Mrs. Hattie Botka and Mrs. Lillian Spychalska, all of South Bend; two brothers, Joseph and Stephen Zmudzinski, and a sister, Mrs. Rose Kansy, all of Cleveland, O., and 16 grandchildren. Mrs. Szymanowski was a member of St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic church.
