[N16391] Gerald W. Lundquist
Nov. 14, 1935 - Mar. 16, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Gerald W. Lundquist, 81, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16th. He was born on November 14, 1935 in South Bend to the late Arvid L. and Elsie J. (Szczypiorski) Lundquist. Jerry, as his friends called him, met his loving wife Ardeth L. Woods in high school and they married in South Bend on September 10, 1955. Jerry is survived by his wife, Ardeth, his daughter, Sandra (Wayne) Griffee of South Bend, his son, Michael (Karen) Lundquist of Three Rivers, MI; ten grandchildren, Eric (Tara) Lundquist, Sarah and Jonathan Griffee, Amy, Kaitlyn, Stephen, Joseph, Madelyn, Paige, and Alison Lundquist; and three great-grandchildren, Marlie, Kennedy and Tyler. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Cathy) Lundquist of Mansfield, OH and Donald Lundquist of North Liberty and a daughter-in-law, Carol Lundquist. Also surviving is his brother-in-law, Dan Coughlin and Jerry's ex-daughter-in-law, Norma Lundquist. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey W. Lundquist and a sister, Shirley Coughlin. Jerry worked as a Draftsman Design Checker for Bendix Corp. from 1954 to 1991. He was a member of Lydick United Methodist Church where he was the leader of the Men's Prayer Group for many years. He was also a former member of the Lions Club and a coach for the Little League for several years. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, putting many miles on his bicycle, building model airplanes, going golfing, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with Ardeth and playing cards with his family and friends. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Chicago Cubs. He will be missed most for his keen sense of humor, devotion to family and his strong faith. He was a true example of what a good life should represent. Jerry was loyal, decent, compassionate, devoted, supportive and always had open arms and kind words. Our loss is Heaven's gain. May the God of hope fill you with all the joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Road 23/W. Ireland Road, South Bend. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Jungbum Kim officiating. Burial will take place at Sumption Prairie Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Lydick United Methodist Church, 26510 Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46628.
