Robert "Digger" D. Lodyga
May 22, 1938 - October 8, 2018
Mishawaka - Robert "Digger" Lodyga, 80, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 in the Center for Hospice Care, South Bend. Robert D. was born May 22, 1938 in South Bend to the late Victor and Helen (Drzewiecki) Lodyga. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years, Margaret (Schrim) Lodyga, their son, Jeff Lodyga, and sister, Elizabeth Morgan. On July 6, 1996, Robert married Judith (Karczewski) Lodyga. She survives along with his daughter, Kimberley (Dave) Roberts; granddaughters, Chelsea and Kyleigh Roberts; brother, Jerome (Vicki) Lodyga; friends, Walt (Jane) Trzaskowski, Rich (Shirley) Pietraszewski, and Bill (Carolyn) Jayo. Bob Proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked for United Conveyor for 25 years. He was a member of PNA 83, Fisherman's Club, and an Usher at St. Adalbert Church. Bob was a great cook, specializing in Polish sausage and sweet & sour cabbage, and made awesome chili. He was an avid Notre Dame, Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Bob and his wife Judy enjoyed mushrooming, fishing, watching American Pickers, going to flea markets or yard sales, and playing pool and euchre. He also enjoyed playing guitar, woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing trips in Wisconsin, and keeping in touch with old friends. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and the Center for Hospice Care for the kindness and care provided. Visitation will be 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm, Sunday, October 14, 2018 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. The Funeral Ceremony will begin at 3:30 pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Wounded Warriors Project. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
