SOUTH BEND - Rita M. Andrzejewski, 84, died Wednesday. Survivors include her children, Carol (Victor) Wier, Judith (Gale) Newman, Sandra (Charles) VanDeVeire & Ronald Andrzejewski; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation is 2-8 pm on Friday, August 24, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, August 25, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.

SOUTH BEND - Rita M. Andrzejewski, 84, passed away at 4:07 am, Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Rita was born March 1, 1928 to the late Joseph and Angela (Szymanowski) Bartkowiak. On April 29, 1950 Rita married Stephen J. Andrzejewski and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1992. Rita was also preceded in death by a sister, Irene Tuszynski, and a niece, Amily Bybee. Rita is survived by her children, Carol (Victor) Wier, Judith (Gale) Newman, Sandra (Charles) VanDeVeire, and Ronald Andrzejewski; grandchildren, Michele, Martha, John, Audrey, Christine, Adam, and Jake; thirteen great-grandchildren; nephew, David Tuszynski, step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. As a lifelong 'Westsider', Rita grew up in St. Adalbert Church, where she married Stephen. After graduation in 1947 from Washington High School, Rita worked at Green Dime Store. Rita was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and a member of St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Harvest House. She was a former Treasurer of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 39 where she was a member since 1981, and an assistant Blue Bird and Campfire Leader. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and was proud when she learned to drive in the 1970's. She also liked dancing, and fishing with her parents on Koontz Lake. Rita and her family enjoyed making Polish Kielbasa for friends and family. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 24, 2012 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 25, 2012 in Holy Cross Catholic Church.
