NEW CARLISLE - Vendla D. Kleca, 90, passed away at 5:10 am June 22, 2014, at Miller's Merry Manor of New Carlisle, IN. She was born September 27, 1923, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Walter and Catherine (Iselman) Johnson. On January 3, 1947, in Michigan City, she married John Kleca, who preceded her in death on July 15, 1981. She worked at Bastian Morley and American Home Foods, and was a farmer with her husband. She was a member of V.F.W. Auxillary of Rolling Prairie, Indiana. She is survived by one son, Joseph Kleca of LaPorte; three grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marceline Breese of LaPorte; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Lois Johnson, Gladys Keller and Madeline Hutton, and three brothers, Owen Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Walter Johnson. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm Wednesday, June 25, 2014, and 10:00-11:00 am Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Essling Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Essling Funeral Home, with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be at Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
